Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek - 12 Days

This 12-day Everest Base Camp trek begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and follows the classic Khumbu route through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche. After acclimatization and gradual ascent, the trail reaches Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m and continues to Kala Patthar at 5,545 m for spectacular Himalayan views. The journey then descends through Pheriche and Namche Bazaar before returning to Lukla and flying back to Kathmandu.

Begin with an exhilarating morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, offering breathtaking mountain views as you approach the world’s most adventurous airport. After meeting your trekking crew, start your Himalayan journey with a gentle 3-hour descent alongside the Dudh Koshi River, passing through traditional Sherpa villages and crossing your first suspension bridges before reaching Phakding for your first night in the mountains.

Today’s 6-hour trek takes you deeper into Sagarmatha National Park, crossing several thrilling suspension bridges including the famous Hillary Bridge. The trail gradually ascends through pine forests, offering potential first glimpses of Mount Everest along the way. Arrive in Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa capital, where colorful markets and welcoming lodges await.

Proper acclimatization is crucial for altitude success. Hike to the Everest View Hotel (3,880m) for stunning panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Return to Namche for lunch, then explore the Sherpa Museum, local markets, or simply relax in one of the village’s cozy bakeries. Remember: “Climb high, sleep low” for best acclimatization.

Follow a contouring trail with magnificent mountain views to the spiritual heart of Khumbu. Descend to Phunki Tenga for lunch, then climb through beautiful rhododendron forests to Tengboche. Visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, where afternoon prayers offer a serene spiritual experience amidst breathtaking Himalayan scenery.

Descend through forested trails before crossing the Imja River and climbing into the high alpine valley of Dingboche. The landscape becomes more rugged, with stone-walled fields and panoramic mountain views. This traditional farming village surrounded by soaring peaks serves as your home for two nights of essential acclimatization.

Hike toward Nangkartshang Peak (up to 5,100m) for spectacular views of Makalu, Lhotse, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The hike provides an excellent opportunity for acclimatization while allowing you to gradually adapt to the high altitude. The ascent is optional and depends on weather, fitness, and individual acclimatization. Afternoon at leisure to rest, explore Dingboche village, or enjoy the magnificent mountain views from your teahouse.

Trek through the memorial-strewn Thukla Pass, a sobering tribute to climbers who lost their lives on Everest’s slopes. The trail then climbs gradually alongside the Khumbu Glacier to Lobuche, where the high-altitude landscape becomes increasingly dramatic and the air noticeably thinner.

Today marks one of the most anticipated moments of the journey. Trek to Gorak Shep, the last settlement before Everest Base Camp, then continue across the rugged moraine of the Khumbu Glacier toward the legendary Everest Base Camp at 5,364m. Take in spectacular views of the Khumbu Icefall and surrounding Himalayan peaks, with colorful expedition tents visible during the spring climbing season. Reaching Everest Base Camp is a truly unforgettable milestone of your Himalayan adventure.

Wake before dawn for the trek’s highlight: a climb to Kala Patthar’s summit for sunrise over Mount Everest. Watch as the first golden light illuminates the world’s highest peak—a moment that will stay with you forever. After absorbing the magnificent views, descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast, then continue down to Pheriche, breathing easier with each descending step.

Retrace your steps through familiar landscapes, now enjoying easier hiking as you descend. Pass through Tengboche and continue downward, appreciating the changing vegetation as you return to tree line. Arrive back in Namche Bazaar, where hot showers and celebratory meals await at comfortable lodges.

Your final trekking day follows the Dudh Koshi River downstream, crossing suspension bridges and passing through villages that now feel familiar. The last climb to Lukla brings a sense of accomplishment and nostalgia. Celebrate your journey’s completion with your trekking team, sharing stories and memories from the trail.

After breakfast, take a scenic morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, enjoying one final glimpse of the Himalayan landscape. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Relax after your trek, explore the vibrant streets and shops of Thamel, or discover Kathmandu’s rich cultural heritage. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner and celebrate the completion of your Everest Base Camp adventure.

The itinerary may be adjusted according to weather, trail conditions, flight schedules, altitude conditions and group pace. Trekking times and distances are approximate, and safety will always be the priority throughout the journey.
