This challenging route combines the turquoise Gokyo Lakes, the panoramic viewpoint of Gokyo Ri, the high-altitude Cho La Pass and the legendary Everest Base Camp in one complete Himalayan adventure.
The trek begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and follows the Dudh Koshi Valley through Phakding and Namche Bazaar. From Namche, the trail takes a quieter route toward Dole, Machhermo and the beautiful Gokyo Valley. After exploring Gokyo and hiking to Gokyo Ri at 5,357 m, you continue toward Thangnak for the challenging crossing of Cho La Pass at approximately 5,420 m.
After crossing the pass, the trail descends to Dzongla and joins the classic Everest Base Camp route at Lobuche. The journey continues to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp at approximately 5,364 m, followed by an early morning hike to Kala Patthar at 5,545 m, the highest point of the trek and one of the finest viewpoints for Mount Everest.
The return journey takes you through Pheriche and Namche Bazaar before reaching Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu. With a combination of high mountain passes, glacial valleys, turquoise lakes, Sherpa villages and iconic Everest viewpoints, this 15-day trek offers a diverse and immersive experience in the heart of the Himalayas.
This is a challenging high-altitude trek that includes Gokyo Ri, Cho La Pass, Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Good physical fitness, proper acclimatization and suitable trekking gear are recommended.

The trail passes through small Sherpa settlements, Buddhist mani walls, prayer flags and pine forests before reaching Phakding. This is a relatively short and gentle trekking day, allowing you to begin adapting to the Himalayan environment.

Today, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River through pine and rhododendron forests toward Namche Bazaar. You will cross several suspension bridges and enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. The trail gradually becomes steeper as you approach Namche, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. After the final uphill section, you reach Namche Bazaar, the main Sherpa trading centre of the Khumbu region.

Today is an important acclimatization day before continuing toward higher elevations. After breakfast, enjoy a short hike around Namche and the surrounding viewpoints. You may hike toward the Everest View Hotel for spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and other Himalayan peaks. You can also explore the Sherpa Museum, Namche market and nearby villages. The remaining time is used for rest and preparation for the higher-altitude sections of the trek.

The trail leaves Namche Bazaar and follows a scenic high route toward the Gokyo Valley. The route climbs gradually toward Mong La, a mountain pass offering beautiful views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtega and surrounding peaks. From Mong La, the trail descends through rhododendron and pine forests toward Phortse Tenga before climbing gradually to Dole. Dole is a small mountain settlement surrounded by dramatic Himalayan scenery and is an important overnight stop before entering the higher Gokyo Valley.

Today, the trail continues higher into the Gokyo Valley. You will walk through alpine landscapes with views of Cho Oyu, Kangtega, Thamserku and other Himalayan peaks. The trail passes through small settlements and yak-grazing areas before reaching Machhermo. As the altitude increases, the landscape becomes more rugged and vegetation becomes increasingly sparse. Upon arrival, rest and allow your body to adjust to the higher elevation.

Today is one of the most scenic sections of the trek as you enter the heart of the Gokyo Valley. The trail follows the upper Dudh Koshi toward Pangkha and continues through an increasingly rugged glacial landscape. You will walk alongside the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier before reaching the beautiful Gokyo Lakes. Continue along the lakeshore toward Gokyo village, situated beside the turquoise glacial lakes and surrounded by spectacular Himalayan peaks. After checking into your teahouse, rest and prepare for the Gokyo Ri hike.

After descending to Gokyo, enjoy breakfast and spend the remaining time exploring the beautiful Gokyo Lakes and surrounding valley.

The trail crosses rugged high-altitude terrain and reaches the glaciated Cho La Pass at approximately 5,420 m. From the pass, enjoy dramatic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks and glaciers before carefully descending toward Dzongla. Trail and snow conditions can vary, so your guide will determine the safest route and timing for the crossing.

After crossing Cho La, today’s trek reconnects with the classic Everest Base Camp route. The trail follows a rugged mountain path toward Lobuche, with spectacular views of Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Nuptse and surrounding peaks. As you approach Lobuche, the landscape becomes increasingly barren and glacial.

Today you reach Everest Base Camp. From Lobuche, the trail follows the rocky moraine of the Khumbu Glacier toward Gorak Shep. After a short break, continue toward Everest Base Camp at approximately 5,364 m. The trail passes through a dramatic glacial landscape with views of the Khumbu Glacier and surrounding peaks. After spending time at Everest Base Camp, retrace the trail back to Gorak Shep, where you spend the night.

Today begins early with a hike from Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar at 5,545 m, the highest point of the entire trek. The climb offers spectacular close-up views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, Lhotse and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After enjoying the sunrise and mountain panorama, descend back to Gorak Shep for breakfast. Continue downhill through the Khumbu Valley, passing through Lobuche and Thukla before reaching Pheriche at 4,240 m.
